Bob’s Big Band

Denver’s Multi-Generational Big Band

Bob Mendenhall began playing the Big Band circuit in the 1930s and ‘40s when most of our songs were written.  Bob’s smooth trombone sound is always featured on one of his favorite tunes like “In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning”, or “I’m Getting Sentimental Over You”, which was Tommy Dorsey’s theme song, or Billie Holliday’s “God Bless the Child”.

Our mission is to provide opportunities for community musicians to enjoy lifelong music performance while playing in an ensemble environment and to entertain audiences of all ages with our delightful big band music.

When you attend a Bob’s Big Band event, you might see Bob Graham, our second oldest trombone player, sitting beside his grandson Ben.  You might hear a high school student playing alongside his teacher.  Many of our musicians are teachers and often bring some of their best students to sit in or fill in with the band.

We are a cross section of America, business and craft, educators and engineers, working and retired. All of us musicians who love to play music from the Big Band era.

You will hear the music of Ellington, Basie, Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey, Les Brown and his Band of Renown, Benny Goodman, Krupa, Kenton, and Colorado’s own Glenn Miller.

So break out the dancing shoes, if you like, and come on out to an era of Ballrooms and Big Bands.
